Yazio Int’l New Year’s Campaign
For Yazio’s international New Year’s Campaign, we created four commercials — each simultaneously captured in three different aspect ratios: 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1. To maintain consistent image quality across all formats, I chose to shoot everything in Open Gate on a 3:2 sensor, giving us maximum flexibility in post without sacrificing resolution or composition.
Visually, we wanted each spot to feel dynamic and surprising. To that end, we drew on a range of optical techniques — rigging the camera to a computer mouse, shooting through a fridge, a Dolly Zoom, macro wide-angle shots, tilt-shift focus, and integrated VFX - to keep the audience engaged throughout.
The result was an intentionally eclectic but cohesive camera and lens package: an Angenieux Optimo 17–80 T2.2, the DZO X-tract 18–28mm T8 Probe Macro Zoom, a Laowa 12mm T2.9 ZERO-D, and a Lensbaby — all on the ARRI Alexa 35.
